Research Indicates Students Prefer New Horizons eLearning Courses 2:1 Over Leading Competitors
Instructional Design Elements Offered by New Horizons Key Driver in Preference Findings
Anaheim, Calif. – 2005 – New Horizons Computer Learning Centers (Nasdaq: NEWH), the world’s largest independent IT training company, announced today the results of recent research indicating 67% of respondents preferred New Horizons’ eLearning courses over courses offered by SkillSoft, Thomson NETg, and KnowledgeNet.
Participants were asked to evaluate and compare New Horizons courses to equivalent competitor courses. Many of the respondents are current customers of SkillSoft, Thomson NETg and KnowledgeNet. Less than 20% of the participants were New Horizons customers. None of the respondents knew that New Horizons had backed the project.
The research was conducted by Edna Luther & Associates, a third party research firm which surveyed the most recent courses available by all four companies in subject areas popular with e-Learning customers; Microsoft Ò Word 2003, Microsoft Excel 2003 and CompTIA Security +. Results indicated that two out of three respondents preferred New Horizons courses.
The key driver in the respondent’s preference for New Horizons’ courses included the following instructional design elements:
- Screen layout
- Information on how to navigate through the course
- Clarity of instructions
- Complete content coverage
- Depth of content coverage
- Thoroughness of post assessment
