How to post your resume to get noticed by employers
Use the right keywords to increase hits
One of the differences between traditional paper resumes and online resumes is that employers can easily search online resumes for keywords. Using the right keywords in the title and body of your resume will increase your chances of being found by an employer’s search. For example, use a searchable word in your resume title such “Experienced Graphic Designer.” Also, take time to research several job descriptions to find what keywords are used repeatedly. The same keywords should be found in your resume. Another easy way to increase hits is to spell out acronyms, making them more searchable.
Keep it accurate
Embellishing your resume won’t get you very far. Hiring managers want to see a true reflection of your qualifications and experience. It is better to say less and keep your resume accurate than to exaggerate your experience. Hiring managers will likely see through any over-inflation and lose interest.
Maintain a positive online identity
The Internet can be a valuable tool when job searching. By creating a resume website or posting blogs about recent issues in your industry, you can display your knowledge and interest in the field. Although there are many advantages to having an online identity, you also need to be cautious. Employers often use the web to screen candidates. Make sure your name isn’t associated with negative content online. If you are involved in the social networking scene, it is a good idea to increase your profile’s privacy settings and keep your personal business personal.
